Nepal's first FOSS Training and Research Center is opened at Brihaspati Vidyasadan School (BVS) at Naxal, Kathmandu, Nepal. This Center has been made possible by the financial help from Help Nepal Network and BVS Alumni and technical help from FOSS Nepal, the community involved in spreading free and open source technologies in Nepal.
FOSS Nepal Community has been declared one of the winners of Software Freedom Day 2008 Best Event Competition. The other winners are from Nicaragua and the Philippines. This is the second time in a row that the Nepal team has been able to win the award.

Software Freedom Day (SFD) is an international event when people vow for the freedom of the softwares. This year it was celebrated on 15th September by 60 nations along with Nepal. This year's SFD was very important event in the Software's freedom movement in Nepal.
