Software Freedom Day is the universal celeberation of Software freedom. This year its on 16th September. In Nepal, FOSS Nepal Community is organising a grand event." SFD NEPAL 2006" with the theme "FOSS for People, Lets make iT FOSSible""
Over 200 groups from over 60 countries are participating in the third
annual Software Freedom Day (sfd06.org) on September 16, 2006 to
showcase the excellent range of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS)
and demonstrate how it can be used to save money and gain freedom in
every sector of the information society. The local volunteer
communities are organizing events ranging from simple meetings,
awareness campaigns, musical concerts, Interactions and skill sharing
sessions on Free and Open Source Software.
In Nepal, the Software Freedom Day (SFD) is being organized by joint
effort of various educational institutions, civil society, media, and
IT communities. These organizations have formed a FOSS Nepal Community
to continue this FLOSSophy. The non-profit organization Software
Freedom International is providing guidance in organizing SFD and some
material support.
How SFD is being celebrated in Nepal?
The Software Freedom Day (SFD) in Nepal is being marked by series of events on September 16, 2006, like:
- Tutorials on Free and Open Source Software.
- Presentation and Interaction.
- Skill Sharing and demonstration sessions.
- Documentary film on FOSS.
- Distribution/Sale of FOSS promotional materials (CDs, T-Shirts).
- FOSS installation/training and troubleshooting session.
