Iran Telecommunication Research Center migration plan

Iran Telecommunication Research Center (ITRC) has started migration to free/open source softwares from April 2006. A management project was defined for starting this migration.

The main goals of this project :

  1. Studying of the situation of ITRC

  • Data gathering (softwares and hardwares information which are used in ITRC)

  • Analyzing of the ITRC potential for migrating to free/open source softwares

  • Suggesting the best compatible distribution of the Linux for ITRC

  • Suggesting the open source softwares instead of any commercial softwares in ITRC

  1. Analyzing SWOT for migration

  2. Comparative studies

  3. Preparing RFP for localization of the some specific open source softwares

  4. Planning for Migration

  5. Designing a portal and activating forum and a wiki for documentations


The project has been successfully finished in April 2007. One of the main concrete results of the project is ITRC migration plan. This is a two years plan which the actual starting date of the plan has not been set yet.
