Name change of the Farsi Linux national project

by Zahra Ahmadi last modified 2006-05-01 07:46 PM

The name of the “Farsi Linux national project” has been changed to the “Free/Open Source Software national project”.

According to the proposal made by the technical committee and its approval at the meeting of the steering committee members, dated October 3rd 2005, the name of the Farsi Linux national project has been changed to “Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) national project”. It has also been decided to change its domain to FOSS.ir.
Extending the range of activities of this project and the lack of totality of the title of Farsification of Linux/GNU for the relevant activities, have been the main reasons for the change. Though the Farsification of the GNU/Linux operating system, that itself is a subset of Free/Open Source software, has also been the prime aim of this project.
The main goals of this project are:
   • To set the ground for an alternative operating system in Iran based on the localization of GNU/Linux and the most widely used Free/Open Source software.
   • To eradicate the essential problems associated with the Persian language in the GNU/Linux internationalization process and most popular FOSS.
   • Enhancing people awareness and promoting the culture of using FOSS
