Conference on Free/Open Source Software within the education system

On the 7th and 8th of March 2006, a conference on the Free/Open Source software was organized by the Advanced Information and Communication Technology Centre (AICTC) of Sharif University of Technology, and by the Research and Planning Organization of the ministry of education.


  In this two-day conference, teachers from vocational training schools along with some students were present.
  In this conference in addition to the speech delivered by the head of research and planning of the ministry of education and a talk by Dr. Sepehri-rad, the head of high council of informatics, Dr. Khansari, the director of the Free/Open Source software national project, explained the objectives and framework of the Free/Open Source software.
  Organizing tutorials on the installation and operation of Linux and introduction to GNU/Linux Graphical User Interface were other activities of the conference. A film on the revolution of open source was also presented to the audience.
  Familiarity of experts in the ministry of education with the desktop applications of Free/Open source software and use of these software in publications of text books, were the other aims of the conference.
