The holy city of Mashad was host to a FOSS event intended to promote its usage natioan wide on 14 and 15th of June, 2006.

During the event, organized by Sharif Advanced Information and Technology Center, Mehrara Co., Mashad's Imam Reza university and Astan-e-Ghods, the students and teachers gained acquaintance to such software in training and education fields.

During the gathering, beside the introductory sessions to FOSS and national FOSS project conducted by the project's authorities, questions and replies, 3 workshops were held as well. Among the workshops were linux installation for server-side use, file-sharing configuration and a LAMP briefing session.

A discussion session was among the other activities that will be led by IT experts from Astan-e-Ghods-e-Razavi. This is one of the several recent gatherings meant to promote the familiarity of younger generation with FOSS nationwide that has attracted a great audience. It is expected that the movement will lead to greater inertia amongst the users and experts leading to expansion of use for such software.
