SUMMARY:The First International Conference on Persian Script & Language Localization
DESCRIPTION:Today's fast developing technology\, calls for a national 
 ICT plan for any developing country\, and especially an “ICT industr
 y promotion plan” that is expected to boost the country/region's gro
 wth to a dramatic extent. This can be the most important element in �
 �bridging the digital divide”. Bridging the digital divide has to be
  a “MUST” for any country or region. The existence of such divide 
 can increase the gap between the developed and developing countries.\n
 Digital divide has so many elements among which usability and availabi
 lity can be realized as the most prominent and role-playing elements. 
 Usability focuses on local language/customs while availability is most
 ly relevant to compatibility.\n The aim of the conference is to provid
 e plans for localization in Iran as well as discussion on related acti
 vities in the world and also choice of platform for local language com
 puting activities.\nRecently\, there has been the formation of seminar
 s such as “Gathering of Experts in Persian Language and Scripts in C
 omputer Environment” and “First Workshop on Language and Computer�
 �� which intended to cover major uses of language in computer environm
 ents. These conferences focused mainly on the use status of Persian la
 nguage within the organizations and the problems they face.\nThe Local
 ization project conducted by Iran's Telecommunication Research Center 
 (ITRC) has carried out research on other countries' experience on the 
 subject to make a guideline document for localization of the Persian l
 anguage. Native and foreign experts are taking part in the event\, cov
 ered the following topics\:\n•	Investigation on the available intern
 ational standards for localization\n•	Localization of Persian script
  and language in computer environments\n•	Developing a feasible way 
 of localization\n•	Exchange of ideas and expertise for extension of 
 Persian language and scripts
