Workshop on "FOSS" at NRCFOSS-INDIA

Workshop on “FOSS” aims to provide an insight into FOSS development and a preview of BOSS GNU/Linux distribution developed by NRCFOSS.

                                                              The   National Resource Centre for Free / Open  Source Software  ( NRCFOSS ) (http://www.nrcfoss.org.in) setup at C-DAC Chennai aims  to  contribute  to  the  growth of FOSS in India through Research and Development, Human Resource Development, Networking and Entrepreneurship Development and as well serve as the reference point for all FOSS related activities in the country.

                                                              On  21st  August  2006   C-DAC  Chennai  organized  a  workshop  on  FOSS.
Danese  Cooper   ( Sr. Director  of  Open  Source Strategy  for  Channel Software Operations - INTEL) had delivered a talk on FOSS at  NRCFOSS . After the talk a demonstration on BOSS (Bharat Operating System Solutions) ,a linux distribution developed by NRCFOSS also took place.

Danese Cooper : Prominent and forthright Open Source advocate who has for many years been in vocal support of compatible Open Source Java. During her six years at Sun, she was involved in creation, licensing and implementation of NetBeans.org, OpenOffice.org, JXTA.org, sunsource.net and drafting of the CDDL license for OpenSolaris. She was also one of the original architects of both the java.net infrastructure and blogs.sun.com. In March 2005 Danese left Sun for Intel, where she works as Sr. Director of Open Source Strategy for Channel Software Operations and is helping to build an Open Source Programs Office.

 

BOSS : BOSS (Bharat Operating System Solutions) is the Indian GNU/Linux Distribution, a deliverable of NRCFOSS as per the recommendations given by the  DIT ,  Government  of India. It aims to provide the Desktop solution with the
features catering for the government domain. Some of the salient features that can be mentioned are Graphical Installer, Bulk Document Converter, Linux Standard Base 3.1 compliance (Certification is in the process) etc. For more details please visit :
