Twelve Year Old qualifies to wear the Red Hat !
Kumaran.R. of Erode in Tamil Nadu, India has become the youngest Red Hat Certified Engineer at the age of twelve.
When he was just six years old, this kid from Erode used to spend his evenings after school at a nearby computer centre and unlike his peers, would play with 'Windows Help and Support' instead of games. Spotting his extraordinary interest, his parents bought him a PC and within a few days, he completely mastered Windows. By the age of nine, this child wonder joined NIIT-DNIIT, normally meant for college students. And by the age of ten, he cleared the online exam and got certified as an MCP in SQL server 7.0- database implementation and designing.

Kumaran got interested in Open Source while interacting with Aravamudhan, an Open Source technologist based in Coimbatore. Once he got to know the advantages of GNU/Linux over other operating systems, he decided to pursue the RHCE certification. However, the road to being a Red Hat Certified Engineer was not that smooth. With both parents working, Kumaran had to travel all alone from his hometown at Erode to Coimbatore to attend weekend classes. After two months of preperation and a failure in the first attempt, he cleared the RHCE exam successfully in April 2005 at the age of 12 years.
" It is difficult to describe it, but obviously I am thrilled to be the youngest RHCE, to date. Even before my exams, I knew I might be the youngest but since I was not targeting to break any record, I was not under any kind of pressure "
