A number of colleges in this metro organized successful FOSS events

Chennai - The city has seen some action in the past few months in the FOSS area with a number of colleges organizing FOSS events. These included Arunai Engineering College, R.M.K. Engineering College and Jaya Engineering College. Students from other colleges as well as people from Industry were invited. Common sights in all three events included stalls showcasing various aspects of FOSS from General introductions to Localization, FOSS tools and Network Security. The students were given different topics to chose from and managed the stalls themselves. The National Resource Centre for Free/Open Source Software(NRCFOSS) co-sponsored some of the events and showcased their work in FOSS which included a demonstration of BOSS, an Indian version of GNU/Linux, which the team intends to localize into all 22 official Indian languages. The events also saw active participation by the Chennai Linux Users Group.
