5th Open Source Camp concluded at IIUC, Chittagong
In the view point of software freedom for all and active
participation in the change of life for good causes the two day long
IIUC Open Source Camp, organized by department of CSE of International
Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) and supported by Bangladesh Open
Source Network (BdOSN) concluded 1st August 2007 at IIUC City Campus in
Chittagong. This is the 5th camp organized by local Open Source Network
and supported by BdOSN. And this is the first time in the Chittagong
region for such a camp. 55 participants selected from various campuses
of IIUC including 7 faculties from IIUC joined in the camp. Besides
them Mr. Rezaul Karim from USTC (University of Science and Technology,
Chittagong) had joined the camp to share the organizing
challenges.
The camp started with an introductory session of all the participants
and an opening note by Mr. Md. Shamsul Islam, the IIUC Trust secretary,
Mr. Mohammed Safiullah, the Head of the department of CSE, IIUC, Mr
Munir Hasan of BdOSN and was conducted by Hijbul Alam. Later the camp
continued with UBUNTU Installation, configuration and troubleshooting
Wikipedia, Localization, distribution of SOS WIKI (A Children
Wikipedia) by BdOSN etc. Mr. Hijbul Alam, Lecturer of CSE of IIUC
directed the camp while Mahay Alam Khan, Belayet Hossain, Salauddin
Pasha, Omar Shehab and Mr. Didarul Alam from BdOSN and ANKUR worked as
the instructors of the camp.
On the second day, the campers worked with GCC, Eclipse and other
compiler; EDGE/GPRS connectivity, SLAX Linux and a competition on Open
Office etc. The camp came to an end with the ceremonial presentation of
the certificate to the participants. Prof. Dr. Abu Bakr Rafique, Pro
Vice chancellor of IIUC presented the certificate to the
participants.
In a parrallel meeting with BdOSN it was decided that IIUC will
organize a simialr camp at its Dhaka campus in near future.
Radio Today was the radio partner of the camp while Nescafe acted the
role of official drink for the Camp.
