IOSN South Asia will be conducting its second event for the year 2006-2007 from April 6th - 8th 2007 at CDAC, Electronics City, Bangalore.

Jumpstart Localisation : Call for applications

This a call for applications for participation in the Jumpstart Localisation training event. All interested parties must send the following information in their applications to nrcfoss AT cdac dot in -:

2) Have you been involved with any projects in FOSS ?

If so please briefly explain them.


3) Where are you from, where do you live now, and what is your current professional affiliation (organisation you work for, mission of the organisation, position you have in the organisation etc.)?

4) Please describe your current technical expertise and ability.


5) Why are you interested in attending the Localisation Training ? ; what do you hope to learn?


6) Are you able/willing to share the acquired skills in your work environment after your training ? If yes, how and how many people do you plan to reach?


7) Will you need to receive a travel subsidy in order to attend the event ? If so, please explain why and estimate how much (in US$) your round-trip travel to Bangalore will cost.


Applications that omit any of the questions will not be reviewed.

    Information of Interest


    About Bangalore


    Situated on a tableland where the Western and Eastern Ghat ranges converge into the Nilgiri hill complex, the State of Karnataka is confined roughly within 11.5 degree North and 18.5 degree North latitudes and 74 degree East and 78.5 degree East longitude. The State is bounded by Maharashtra and Goa States in the North and North-West; by the Arabian sea in the West; by Kerala and Tamilnadu States in the South and by the State of Andhra Pradesh in the East. The State extends to about 750 km from North to South and about 400 km from East to West, and covers an area of about 1,91,791 sq.km.

    Bangalore is capital of the state of Karnataka located in southern part of India. It is a fast growing metropolis, also known as the garden city of India. Situated at about 1000 meters above sea level with moderate temperature through out the year. On one hand the city is littered with old attractive bungalows, parks, hotels, places of worship and traditional market-places and on the other with trendy shopping malls, IT hubs, new architectural wonders and modern looking religious centers.


    Accomodation

    Accomodation will be arranged by the organizers and selected applicants will be intimated by mail about the same.

    Venue

     

    The training will take place at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, 68, Electronics City, Bangalore - 560 100. It is situated 15 km away from the airport.

    Weather

    Generally, Bangalore is well favoured for its climate. Bangalore records high temperatures during April with daily mean temperatures of 33.4 degree Celsius.

    Currency


    The local currency is the Indian Rupee. 1 US$ = 45 Rs approximately. Currency exchange facilities are provided at the Airport and other centres around the city as well. 


    Indian Visa Requirements


    All foreign nationals are required to present a valid passport and an appropriate (entry, transit or tourist) visa, upon arrival in India. As a visitor to India, you need to get a visa from the Indian Embassy or High Commission. Citizens of Bhutan and Nepal do not require a passport to travel to India.     Letter of Invitation

    In case you need to submit a letter of invitation for participating in the conference from the organizers, please send us a request as early as possible.

    Immigration and Customs


    Visitors will have to fill out an immigration and customs form on entering India. They may be asked to declare the amount of foreign currency in their possession at the time of entering the country. For international flights, it is usual practice to report three hours before departure from IGI International airport at New Delhi.
