Venue

Asia Source II is a community building event - in the spirit of free and open source software - participants will be expected to share resources, contribute to activities and the running of the event. The event will be held at Yawitra Resort at Sukabumi.

According to the Wikipedia "Sukabumi is a city and regency in the highlands of West Java, Indonesia, about 80 km (50 miles) south of Jakarta. Located at an altitude of about 600 meters (2000 feet), the city is a minor hill station resort, with a cooler climate than the surrounding lowlands". "Suka Bumi" in Bahasa Indonesia means "Like Earth".

Yawitra has been intentionally chosen by the organisers for its simple facilities and camp style atmosphere. The women would be accommodated in groups of four, they would use the two bedroom villas. Men, would also be accommodated in groups of four in single rooms with attached toilet. Some of the toilets are Asian style so do tell us if you absolutely require a western style commode. We will then make sure that you will have access to one.

We will also have large group lunches and dinners and have access to a plenary hall, a swimming pool, an aquarium and a prayer room [sacred space]. The venue is set in a garden and there are many areas available for conversation and relaxation. Most villas have open verandahs that could be used by smaller break-away discussions. The buildings are simple and functional and have been constructed in an Indonesian style.

The organisers will set up 4 labs using tents and a bazaar on site. Each lab would consist of a hub of 15-networked computers with limited Internet connection. Additional ports and cable will be available for those participants who bring there own laptops. A wireless access point will be provided at the plenary hall and at the bazar area. These labs and plenary area will be open in-between sessions and in the evening. Participants can use this space for a range of activities such as testing out tools, working one-on-one or accessing the internet. The Bazaar will be a tented area, furnished with mats, cushions and rolls. It will be used for evening gatherings, informal discussions and sessions during the day, as well as serving tea and refreshments.

Please be advised that many of Asia Source's activities will take place in open air rooms and outdoor spaces. This will be an informal workshop event, please make sure you bring appropriate clothing for the weather and style of the facilities. Temperature may vary between 34 and 14 degrees centigrade based upon time of the day, cloud cover and rain. There is also a possibility that it might rain during the period of the project.

This is an on-site training within a closed community, participants will be expected to stay at Yawitra for the duration of the event. As mentioned earlier accommodation will be provided dormitory style, please be prepared to share rooms and bathrooms with fellow
participants.
