USP-IOSN Microgrant Programme for Pacific Island Countries
The University of the South Pacific (USP) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme’s Asia Pacific Development Information Programme (APDIP) is pleased to launch the USP-IOSN (International Open Source Network) Microgrant Programme for Pacific Island Countries. This Microgrant Programme is a competitive grants scheme made available to individuals or teams in the Pacific Island Countries.
The grants (20 altogether) will be provided specifically for the development of software applications that will be released as Free or Open Source Software (FOSS). The software application can be an enhancement of an existing application or it can be a new application. Software applications that run only on a proprietary platform will not be accepted.
The criteria for selection of proposals can be accessed from the University website
These include: Originality and innovation of the proposal and usefulness of the software application to identifiable user group. Preference will be given to software applications which can be used in development-related areas, meet local needs or where there are no existing solutions, and to projects for enhancing an existing application that has been released as FOSS.
The proposal should have a clear plan with main milestones indicated. The programming language used for development must have a FOSS implementation and only FOSS database should be used in the application if applicable.
The FOSS Microgrant Programme is open to all individuals and teams from any Pacific Island countries. Special preference will be given to students in the award of the microgrants.
The funding available for each microgrant will be US$900 (approximately FJ$1,809.00) per project and for a duration of not exceeding 6 months. Extension of time may be considered if justified. 20 awards are available in this first offer.
