OSS project Internationally Accredited
Advanced Medical and Dental Institute, Universiti Sains Malaysia (AMDI, USM) recently received invitation from University of Philippines, Manila for an exchange training programme on their OSS project, OsiriX.
AMDI can now execute its long-term plan to kick-start an awareness and training programme after receiving the formal invitation. Professor Dr. Ibrahim Lutfi Shuaib of AMDI is specifically invited to give training on OsiriX at National Telehealth Center, Manila on December 10-11, 2010.
OsiriX is an advanced DICOM Medical Imaging Software used in patient care and health research that uses Open Source architecture. It conforms to medical standard DICOM 3.0. It is used as multimodality and multi-dimensional DICOM Viewer and PACS workstation.
It is released under a free software license. OsiriX is a unique software that functions as a viewing application workstation, reconstruction of data to be multi-dimensional (3D, 4D, 5D), limited server capabilities for storage and distribution, web server and transferring images from Hospital A to Hospital B through internet cloud.
According to AMDI, the achievement is attributed the International Conference on Open Source Software in Healthcare (INCOSSH) organized in November 2008 where a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to share expertise in ICT in healthcare among the ASEAN countries.
Osirix has also earned AMDI a place in the final for the Public Sector OSS case Study Awards 2010 held in conjunction with MyGOSSCON 2010.
