MyGOSSCON 2010 attended by Over 1,000 participants

The fouth annual Malaysian Open Source Software Conference (MyGOSSCON 2010) held on 2-3 November, at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) is another resounding success for MAMPU. It has drawn more than 1,000 participants from various quarters who converged in this 2-day conference to learn of the remarkable benefits of a variety of Open Source Software (OSS) solutions which are being adopted widely in government agencies, Institutions of Higher Learning, and private sector organisations.

The interactive conference saw Public sector, private sector and the R&D community form strategic alliance to push the utilisation of open source software in improving public service delivery. MyGOSSCON 2010 successfully substantiates inherent strength of Open Source Software in helping numerous government agencies and companies to reap significant benefits. This year's conference theme, “OSS: Innovation for National Transformation” specifically accentuated the instrumental role of OSS in supporting the four pillars of national transformation such as Government Transformation Programme and New Economic Model.

The full-fledged conference was officiated by Y.B. Senator Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department on behalf of Y.A.B. Tan Sri Dato' Haji Muhyiddin Bin Mohd. Yassin , the Deputy Prime Minister on Nov 2.

It astonished and inspired participants with many exciting activities encompassing more than 40 papers presented through plenary, track and tutorial sessions, 46 exhibitor booths, OSS Community forums, competitions, other informative and entertaining events, as well as new activities such as 36-hour OSS Web Development Contest and new OSCC products launch.

The opening ceremony featured awards presentation ceremony and new OSCC MAMPU products launch. Two new OSCC products, MyDesktopManager and MyTaskManager were launched using state-of-the-art 3D animation powered by OSS, showcasing the latest technology capability and maturity of OSS. In contrast, the closing ceremony saw MAMPU's Director General, Dato' Mohamad Zabidi Zainal announce the best exhibition booth winner on Nov 3.

MAMPU Deputy Director General, ICT, YBhg. Dato' Dr. Nor Aliah Binti Mohd Zahri delivered keynote on "OSS: Innovation for National Transformation" together with three other presenters, while concurrent sessions were separated into nation building, innovation and transformation tracks, drawing on key local and international speakers from Malaysia, USA, Australia, Spain, Norway, Japan, and Singapore who shared their experiences in these sessions.

An OSS Showcase Exhibition consisting of 46 exhibition booths was also held in conjunction with the conference. The aim of the exhibition was to display various OSS solutions that have been successfully deployed within the public sector and also solutions with a strong potential to be used in the public sector. It also clearly demonstrated the readiness of the local ICT industry to implement and support OSS solutions especially for the government agencies.
