The Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (APCICT) is organizing a Forum, entitled "Asian and the Pacific Regional Forum on ICT Capacity Building: Where are we, where are we going and what will it take to fill the gap?" The Forum will be held from 5 to 6 March 2007 at Incheon, the Republic of Korea. Immediately after the Forum, a training session on E-Government Training is planned to be held for the invited participants for 7-9 March 2007.

The Forum will provide a platform for the participants to share experience and discuss salient issues related to ICT capacity building. Its specific objectives include: (1) to present the current status, needs, and challenges of ICT capacity building at the regional and national levels, (2) to share experiences and good practices of ICT capacity building of international communities and the private sectors, (3) to discuss a plan of action to be implemented by all stakeholders, including APCICT, to close the gap in human resource development in ICT for development, and (4) to discuss a means for monitoring progress in the implementation of the plan of action.

The Forum is expected to identify systematic needs assessment mechanisms and formulate strategic plans for effective collaboration of various stakeholders engaged in this effort. These outputs will help develop human resources in the use of ICT for development by promoting more demand driven programmes and enhancing synergies among various stakeholders in programme formulation and knowledge creation and sharing. It will, in turn, contribute to narrowing the digital divide and creating digital opportunities in the region.
