Youth group urges DepEd to sign up for $100-laptop project
Here’s one for the Department of Education (DepEd), which is facing several hurdles in modernizing teaching through computer technology: A US-based computer company is now offering a laptop that cost only $100 in order to help developing countries solve the perennial computer shortage in public schools.
Kabataan Party president Raymond Palatino urged DepEd to signup for the
“One Laptop per Child project" to augment computer shortage in public
schools and modernize the education in the country.
“This is one worthy investment our government should undertake," said Palatino.
He said the government can save millions in the machine, which costs
$100 or roughly P5,000 compared to desktop computers, which cost more
than P20,000 and laptops, which prices range from P40,000 to more than
P100,000 each.
