Information for local participants

Lab Times

Course and lab times to be specified.

The course will cover and complete all the LPI objectives in this training. The first week will cover LPI 101 in the first 4 days, and then LPI 102 over the next 6 days.

Reference manuals will be made available for participants.


The reference Linux distribution for this is Ubuntu Linux for which some CDs have been copied. The course is Linux distribution neutral, if you are famliar with another Linux distribution, please bring the CDs with you to the lab. Each trainee will have their own computer to use. Your Linux distribution of choice should meet the following requirements (or have packages readily installable).

- Xserver (xorg)
- xdm, gdm (gnome) or kdm (kde) display managers
- kernel 2.6 and usb support
- apache
- nfs
- samba
- cups printing

Examples of other distributions which can be used during this course are Fedora Core, Centos, OpenSuse.

Trainees are also encouraged to bring usb keys to copy any other materials that may be introduced during the course such as the slides. All materials will be also be available online.

Examinations

There will be 2 examinations of 90 minutes each on the 21st of October.
  • LPI 101 900-1030
  • LPI 102 1100-1230
Please take note of the following:

  • Arrive at least thirty minutes before your test
  • Ensure that you have registered online at the LPI website for your LPI ID, you will need to write and remember this number in order to take the exam
  • Ensure that you have paid the 3500 Pesos (cash only) before taking the exams.

Participants only need to bring pencils and an eraser to the exam.

Only those who pass both exams will get LPIC 1 Certification from LPI. Results will be notified directly by LPI within a month.

Cost

The cost per participant is 10,000 Pesos.
The cost of training will be sponsored for selected participants.

After hours exercises and revision

In order to pass LPI exams, participants are encouraged to continue doing exercises and use Linux after hours to be familiar with all the LPI objectives.

Selection

Participants who will attend are to be determined by IOSN and partners based on the following criteria.

  • Must have experience administrating a Linux PC and familiar with material covered in the courseware (at least 6 months daily use of Linux as desktop or server).

  • Participants must be familiar with PC hardware, basic networking, navigating the Linux command line and basic knowledge of programming.

  • Participants are required to have a good command of English, including technical terms used in the course ware.

  • Participants or the entity they are representing will need to bear the costs of examination. The cost of the examination will be 3500 Pesos to sit two papers required for LPIC Level 1 certification.

  • Participants should currently be trainers or will be in a position to be a trainer after completion of training and certification.

  • Nominated participants must register for an LPI ID before sitting the examination. They can register for free online at https://www.lpi.org/en/register.html. They must also have a photo ID before sitting the examination for identification purposes.

Partner organizations whose trainees manage to achieve LPIC Level 1, need to apply to be an LPI Approved Training Partner (LATP) Program:

All participants must report their results to IOSN, the results of the information will be shared with implementing partners. However the names of participants will remain confidential and not disclosed to the public.. Participants who fail to achieve LPIC Level 1 must resit for the certification before the end of year (2006)

Participants are expected to go through and be familar with the course materials and objectives before attending the training.
