CICC Scholarships in Information Technology for 2005 (Part 4)
The Center of the International Cooperation for Computerization (CICC), Japan is offering scholarships for training courses to be conducted in Japan in 2006. Application forms can be obtained from the MNCC Secretariat. Applications must be submitted to the Executive Director, Gabungan Komputer Nasional Malaysia (MNCC) not later than the application deadlines stipulated below.

Course Information
Courses Supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) Japan Fiscal 2005 (Part 4)1. Duration: 30 January to 17 March 2006 (tentative) for both courses

CI. Open Source Software and Linux Networking Course (OSN)
1. Qualification of ApplicantsApplicants should:
[ General Condition ]
1) be nominated by the CICC counterpart organization, and be
recommended by their employer.
2) have a university education or an equivalent level of education.
3) have a sufficient working knowledge of spoken and written English.
4) have no prior experiences of the CICC invitational training program
within the past two years.
5) have no prior experiences of any CICC training courses equivalent to
this course.
6) be in good health, both physically and mentally, in order to
complete the training course successfully. Pregnancy is regarded as a
disqualifying condition for any participation in this training course.
7) be non-military personnel.
8) be employed in the same organization during the course period, and
must be in a position where the results of the training can be put to
practical use. Students are not eligible.
9) be of age between 20 and 50 when they participate in the course.
[ Technical Prerequisites ]
1) be familiar with the operation of Linux/Windows desktop operations,
including office tools, file system management and system management of
a stand alone machine.
2) be familiar with the basics of TCP/IP operations and the Internet
mechanisms.
3) have some experience in command-line system operation or
administration of Linux and/or Unix.
4) have some knowledge of computer language or script.
5) have more than 3 years’ computer related work experience.
6) preferably have passed one of the IT engineers examinations
certificated mutually by regulatory authorities between Japan and
China, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar Chinese Taipei. Please
refer to the table of examinations on the page 8.
7) preferably have been awarded the certificate of the OSS Leader
Course held by CICC in Vietnam in 2004FY and 2005FY, if applied from
Vietnam.
Linux Servers and clients
3. Language of Instruction
The course will be conducted in English.
4. Certificate
Trainees who have successfully completed the course will be awarded a certificate issued by CICC.
5. Course Details
Overview
Course provides trainees with the in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience required to configure Linux network services and administrate Linux systems. Areas in which trainees will acquire knowledge and practical experience include the following;
- Obtaining software from open source software projects.
- Open source software (application) installation, including compilation and configuration.
- Management of server services.
- Protecting against malicious attacks and other security issues.
- Internet server administration and the functions of root.
- CMS (Contents Management System) tools and their application.
Goals
Goals of the course include trainees' acquiring an understanding in the following;
- Setting up a server using open source software.
- How to securely operate a server.
- How to use CMS tools.
C2. Open Source Software Application Development Course (OSA)

China, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and Chinese Taipei.

Linux OS based Open Source Software development packages, Windows client
The course will be conducted in English.

5. Course Details
Overview
This course is designed to train IT engineers (programmers) who need to develop application software to provide solutions. The aim of the course is to learn various open source software to develop an online shop application by exercises with LAMP. It also shows application design methodologies. Apache web server and MySQL database are used as platforms for the development. PHP is used as programming language. osCommerce (Open Source online shop e-commerce solution) is used to develop an online shop application.
Goals
Upon completion of the course, trainees should be able to:
1) understand several open source frameworks to tailor into real sites.
2) understand the use of Web services.
3) understand how to design such systems
