The first beta release of FFEHR, an electronic health record application commissioned by the ASEAN+3 node of the International Open Source Network (IOSN), was released to the public last April 28, 2008. This release comes six months after the University of the Philippines Manila-National Telehealth Center tasked free/open source software (F/OSS) programmer Nathaniel Jayme and Davao-based F/OSS organization DabaweGNU, Inc. to jointly develop FFEHR. This release marks an important milestone as the project now opens its doors for public review.

DabaweGNU, Inc.'s successful undertaking of the first Linux Systems Administration (LiSA1) training last February, encouraged the organization to conduct another training last April 7-11, 2008. Dubbed, LiSA 1.2, the training attracted systems administrators from all over Mindanao. In all, there were 22 participants. They represented various industries but many came from the government, education, and telecom sector. The biggest groups were from the city government of Surigao, University of Southern Mindanao, and Philcom.

The 3-day event was organized by the Mindanao State University (MSU)-GenSan Computer Center with the SoCSKSarGen Open Source Society (SOSS) and the Koronadal National Comprehensive High School (KNCHS) FOSS Society.

KABACAN, NORTH COTABATO, PHILIPPINES. In an official letter from Dr. Virgilio G. Oliva, University of Southern Mindanao (USM) president, to the International Open Source Network (IOSN) ASEAN+3, it was formally announced that USM-Kabacan will spearhead the migration of its computer systems from proprietary to free/open source software (F/OSS) at the first quarter of 2008 through its Information and Communications Technology Center (USM-ICTC) as part of its continuing F/OSS advocacy in line with the IOSN ASEAN+3 agenda.
