- I believe that FOSS is very important as a
concept and a way of bringing out the best in people, I love the
community feeling that FOSS generates. I started using Linux in 1994.
My intereest in developing an Electronic Medical Record System and a Knowledge Management type CMS in a hospital in my country, led me to join a small group or community of people with the same interest. We have had great success!
I am a developer of the Open Infrastructure for Outcomes Project (http://www.txoutcome.org) - initiated by Andrew Ho, Professor of Psychiatry at Harbour UCLA Medical Centre, USA. We use Zope. Plone, Epoz, ZWiki and PostgreSQL. We have developed a LiveOIO CD based on Linux, which works wonderfully well with a USB pen drive, and also allows easy installation to run a server on a network.
This software is now being used in a network in my hospital.
I am also actively involved in the Lanka Linux User Group (LKLUG) to promote FOSS in Sri Lanka. We are attempting to develop the Sinhala and Tamil languages in Linux for successful localization. Unicode has been developed and a single free font so far - derived from a LaTex font.
