First ever Open Source Camp in Bangladesh concluded

Students at the Camp

The first ever open source camp in Bangladesh concluded on Saturday, 24th March 2007 at the CSE department of SUST, Sylhet, Bangladesh. A total 66 students, mainly from SUST and also from BRAC University, American International University Bangladesh and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, had attended the camp. The camp is sponsored by a PSTN company, Ranks Telecom Ltd (RanksTel). Friday (23rd march) morning Prof Dr M Zafar Iqbal inaugurate the camp. Dr S K Das of SUST distributed certificates among the participants at the closing session. The following topics were covered in the camp- Linux and its different distribution, Open Office, LAMP, Wikipedia etc. A session was also dedicated for bangla localization. Mr Jamil Ahmed of Ankur directed the camp. He was assisted by Mr Mahey Alam Khan, Khandaker Mujahidul Islam Suzan, Omar Shehab, Salahuddin Pasha and Abu Zaher. RanksTel provide a free calling booth at the camp premises and a good number of students use that facility to call upon the near and dear one!
