Third Open Source Camp Concluded in Bangladesh
The third Open Source Camp in Bangladesh, the Prime Bank Open Source
Camp-3, organized by Jahangirnagar University(JU) Open Source Network
(JU_OSN) and supported by Ankur and BdOSN completed on Saturday, 12th
May 2007. There were 35 Students from JU who participated in the camp.
They were selected from 122 applicants! Besides them representatives
from Prime Bank ltd and Mawlana Bhasani Science and Technology
University (MBSTU) also took part in the camp. In the opening ceremony,
Professor Dr M Zafar Iqbal urged the participants to take the
leadership to make the society free from pirated software in particular
and pirated thinking in general. He pointed out that through out the
history the young generation, especially the university students
brought the new light to the nation. The opening ceremony was chaired
by the chairman of CSE Department, JU, Dr M Zahidur Rahman. Among
others the ceremony was addressed by Mr Munir Hasan of BdOSN, Mr. Jamil
Ahmed of Ankur and Mr Moniruzzaman of Prime Bank Ltd. Ms Biva of JUOSN
conducted the opening ceremony. The two day camp covered theoretical
and hands on exercises on Ubuntu and Sraboni Linux, Open Office.org,
gcc, GPRS/EDGE issue, localization, Wikipedia, etc. A competition was
also arranged on the second day. The participants were divided into
four groups, studied a topic and present their findings to the campers.
Mr Jamil Ahmed directed the camp and was assisted by Mujahidul Islam
Sujon, Salauddin Pasha, Zico, Abu Zaher and Rezaur Rahman Sajal.
Tasnnem Sanjana, Musfiqur Rahman, Biva, Mouri and Mozammel were among
the most active organizer's of this event. The camp ended with an Open
Air Certificate Ceremony in the campus. Dr M Zahidur Rahman handed over
the certificate to all the participants.
