Open Source Network formed at North South University, Dhaka
Students of North South University recently formed their own open source network in the campus. The network launching has been held in a associated seminar on 12th February 2008.
Open source philosophy opens up a scope for the students to develop
themselves and also to help the nation at the same time. Moreover it
will be great propeller for a knowledge based society. The speakers in
a seminar on 12th February expressed these opinions. The seminar,
titled "Open source Software for wireless community" was held in
Seminar Room, North South University,( NSU), organized by NSU Wireless
Forum. The seminar was addressed by Professor Faruk Ahmed, Adviser of
the forum, Professor Dr Miftaur Rahman of CSE department of NSU, Mr
Munir Hasan of BdOSN, Dr Mashiur Rahman, CSE Department of NSU and Mr
Mahay Alam Khan of BdOSN. Professor Faruk Ahmed gave emphasis to build
a knowledge based society while Professor Miftaur Rahman urges the
students to developed skill in both open source and proprietary
technology. In the key note speech, Mr Munir Hasan explained the
paradigm shift in computer technology and requested the students to be
an active part of the history. He said that the world is now observing
a knowledge shifting towards Internet based society and Open Source
Technologies are in the heart of the Internet. In the discussion, Dr
Mashiur Rahman explained how involvement with open source project would
help students to shape their career. Later Mr Mahay Alam Khan explained
some Open Source technology related to wireless activity to the
students. At the end of the seminar, Mr Munir Hasan formally launched
the formation of NSU Open Source Network. The network members may
