Open Source Workshop held at Jhangirnagar University, Dhaka
A day long workshop creates awareness among the university students in Bangladesh
A day long FOSS workshop held in Jahangirnagar University on 7th
November 2007. The workshop was organized by Jahangirnagar University
Open Source Network (JUOSN). After the inauguration of FOSS Camp in
Jahangirnagar University (11,12 May, 2007), the awareness and
inquisitiveness on Open Source had been gradually increasing, as a
result of which, a workshop on Open Source Content and Development was
successfully conducted in the Department of Computer Science and
Engineering in Jahangirnagar University. Participants were from
different departments (CSE/ non-CSE) of JU. The workshop started with
an encouraging inaugural address from Dr. Zahidur Rahman, Chair person
of dept. of CSE, JU. Then the learning sessions began which included
history and progress of Open Source Philosophy, Open Contents, Network
Configuration, Pidgin IM configuration, GPRS/EDGE connectivity on
Linux, Open Office etc. These sessions were conducted by Tanimul Haque,
Abu Shufean and Partha Chakraborty of JUOSN. After the lunch break the
workshop got its full spirit when Muzahid Suzan started his sessions.
He showed the installtion of Ubuntu 7.10 and discussed about
troubleshooting and various aspects of Ubuntu and Ankur's latest
distribution হৈমন্তী . Nafisa Tisa also gave a short speech regarding
Localization and Wikipedia. Finally Dr Zahidur Rahman awarded
certificates among the participants.
