Some cleanups
Quick updates on foss.org.my
I did some quick cleanups of foss.org.my
- Forums
- Enabled multi-language support again (although BM hasn't been updated yet to Bahasa Malaysia yet)
- Minor clean up of the front page, although a new template is long overdue
- Some other background bugs, that didn't effect usability
Finished the government training, and I hope to kickstart a community of FOSS government users from it. This should help build capacity internally between agencies.
One reason for this is actually to lesson reliance on dodgy vendors. I think the trainees can do better implementing solutions on their own. I've seen a few posts already from vendors getting so called FOSS or Open Source projects while not having any clue about it. One of them even didn't understand licensing issues, yet is about to embark on FOSS promotion in rural areas. This is a practice that has to stop. It will only give a bad overall impression of FOSS, not to mention cause a lot of misinformation.
So for those of you looking for commercial FOSS support, investigate company backgrounds and make an informed choice. A lot of large FOSS application projects are on the Internet, and often a quick Google will show which vendors are offering solutions backed by technical expertise, and which are trying to sell you snake oil.
