Training of Trainers for FOSS for Geographic Information Systems held in Jakarta
Training on how to use Free and/or Open Source GIS held in Jakarta
Twenty-six Indonesians underwent a week-long training on the use of
free and/or
open source software for geographic information systems. With the
assistance of RISTEK (State Ministry for Research and Technology), and
support from InWent Capacity Building International Germany, the
International Open Source Network ASEAN+3 organized this interesting
training event by bringing together Indonesians from various
persuasions so they can learn more about how FOSS can be used for
GIS.
Called Training of trainers for FOSS GIS, the event aims to
develop
enough knowledge amongst participants so they can return to their
respective communities and likewise teach others about the
technology.
Providing technical know-how was Arnulf Christl of the
WhereGroup
Germany. Mr. Christl demonstrated the capabilities of MapBender
as
well as links to important resources such as the Open Geospatial
Consortium and the OSGeo consortium.
InWent's it@foss program enables these kinds of training in
several
ASEAN countries. Through a strategic partnership, IOSN is able to
leverage its network of FOSS advocates to establish firm
foundation
for the promotion of FOSS in the region.
